Alanis Morissette

Alanis Nadine Morissette (born June 1, 1974) is a seven time Grammy Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter and occasional actress. She is the best-selling female rock artist of all time.

Her international debut album Jagged Little Pill (1995) became one of the most successful albums of all time with total worldwide sales estimated at thirty million copies. Six more studio albums followed – Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (1998), Under Rug Swept (2002), Feast on Scraps (2002), So-Called Chaos (2004), Flavors of Entanglement (2008) and Havoc and Bright Lights (2012) .

Early Life
Alanis Morissette was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, to school teachers Alan and Georgia Morissette. Her father is French Canadian and her mother is Hungarian. She has an older brother, Chad, and a twin brother named Wade. Between the ages of three and six they lived with their parents in Lahr (Black Forest), Germany.

Morissette showed a love for singing and songwriting at an early age. When she was 9 years old, Morissette wrote her first song. With the money saved from her stint on the children’s television show You Can’t Do That On Television, Morissette released an indie single Fate Stay With Me with the B-side Find The Right Man.

In New York City, Morissette landed a spot on Star Search, a popular televised American talent competition with her stage name of Alanis Nadinia. Morissette flew to Los Angeles to appear on the show, but lost after one round.


She portrayed God in the 1999 movie Dogma.
She sang The Osmond Brothers' "One Bad Apple" on Star Search, a US TV show that tried to discover new talent. She lost to Chad the Singing Cowboy.
Alanis is from Ottawa, Canada. She moved to Los Angeles in 1994 to work with Glen Ballard, who helped her write and produce Jagged Little Pill.
Alanis was an actress as a child. She was on the Nickelodeon show You Can't Do That On Television at age 10, and appeared in a movie a year later with Matt LeBlanc as her boyfriend. In 1992, she moved to LA to appear in the TV sitcom Just One Of The Girls.
She started as a dance singer when she was 11. Her first 2 albums contained pop songs that were very popular in Canada.
She opened for Vanilla Ice on his 1990 tour.
Her 1999 tour was sponsored by MP3.com. She received a lot of stock in the deal, which was worth many millions of dollars before the Internet bubble burst a year later. She did sell $1.5 million worth of the stock before it collapsed.
She was a teen star in Canada equivalent to Debbie Gibson or Tiffany in the US. She won a Juno award (Canadian Grammy) for Most Promising Female Vocalist in 1992.
She did not have a US record deal when she recorded Jagged Little Pill. She did not look for a label until until she was done with it because she didn't want the record company messing with it.
She signed to Madonna's vanity record label Maverick Records after performing an acoustic audition for their executives.
She is the first Canadian female to have a #1 album in the US (Jagged Little Pill).
When she was a teenager in Canada, she did catalog modeling.
She used to date Dave Coulier, who was on the TV show Full House. They met at a hockey game in 1992.
Alanis was named for her father. Her parents were looking for an original girl's name that was a derivative of his name, Alan.
