Sarah Silverman

 

Sarah Kate Silverman (born December 1, 1970) is an American stand-up comedian, writer, producer, and actress. Her satirical comedy addresses social taboos and controversial topics, such as racism, sexism and religion, having her comic character endorse them in an ironic fashion.

A sassy, sharp tongued actress / comedian / writer from Bedford, New Hampshire. She started out on the HBO program “Mr. Show with Bob and David” (1995). Her quick wit and attractive features meant she was ideal on either side of the camera, and Silverman soon broke into feature films with appearances in Bulworth (1998), There’s Something About Mary (1998) and The Bachelor (1999).

Not forgetting her comedic roots on television, Silverman was back on TV in the zany comedy series “Greg the Bunny” (2002) and she provided one of the featured voices on “Crank Yankers” (2002). More recently, Silverman played the uptight girlfriend of Mike White pestering serial loser Jack Black in The School of Rock (2003) plus she co-starred in the mini-series “Pilot Season” (2004)(mini). She also stars in her own television program called “The Sarah Silverman Program”.

Silverman was a writer and occasional performer for 18 weeks on Saturday Night Live and starred in and produced The Sarah Silverman Program, which ran from 2007 to 2010 on Comedy Central. She released an autobiography The Bedwetter in 2010. She has also appeared in other television programs, such as Mr Show and V.I.P., and starred in films, including Who's the Caboose? (1997), School of Rock (2003), Wreck-It Ralph (2012) and A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014).

Silverman was born in Bedford, New Hampshire to Beth Ann and Donald Silverman. She was raised in Manchester, New Hampshire. Beth had been George McGovern's personal campaign photographer and would found the theater company New Thalian Players, while Donald had training as a social worker and also ran the clothing store Crazy Sophie's Outlet. Silverman's parents divorced and remarried. Silverman is the youngest of five siblings, her sisters are Rabbi Susan Silverman, screenwriter Jodyne Silverman and actress Laura Silverman; her brother Jeffrey Michael died when he was 3 months old. She was born to a Jewish family and considers herself Jewish, though was not "raised with any religion."The first time Silverman performed stand-up comedy was in Boston at age 17, she described her performance as "awful". After graduating from The Derryfield School in Manchester, she attended but did not graduate from New York University and performed standup comedy in Greenwich Village.


Sarah appeared on the cover of the June 2007 issue of Maxim magazine. She was ranked #29 on the magazine's Hot 100 List that same year.
Sarah wrote and stared in the film Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic.
Sarah's ethnic background is Russian and Polish.
Sarah was 17 years old the first time she did stand-up.
Sarah once wrote an article for Penthouse Magazine.
Sarah does not drink alcoholic beverages.
