Fifteen years ago, The Red Hot Chili Peppers dropped one of their classic albums for the world ‘By The Way. It would be onf of the albums that took on a different approach from some of the more popular EP’s that the band had released in previous and future years, but certainly would not be one that is easily forgotten. With a number of songs that are considered popular by their fans, there’s a lot to be thankful for within this 16-piece work of art.
What was dubbed as Californication 2, the unofficial sequel to perhaps one of their most successful albums ever, the piece topped the Billboard 200 at number two, selling just shy of 300,000 in the first week in the US. Worldwide sales saw numbers of 1.8 million, and the album was certified gold just a few short months following the initial release.
Kiedis seemed to be at his absolute best during this time, following the tone and mood of the music he had created with the band in a previous album, and took this one to new heights. The other bandmembers, in true Chili Pepper fashion, also took on their respective roles and outperformed themselves once again, as they had been doing their entire careers.
The band went on tour shortly after, kicking the tour off with a number of charity performances, and sweepstakes on outlets such as iTunes to be able to see the band for free. As expected, the shows sold out and fans lined up for hours to get a glimpse at the great band, before belting out the words to their favorite songs.
The Chili Peppers are on tour again right now, with dates that span across the world, landing back in the US for part of the summer. While there’s no real rush, you should probably hop on tickets before they sell out.
