Rihanna announced that she and Coldplay, who recently collaborated on “Princess of China” from ColdPlay’s new Mylo Xyloto album, would be playing together on stage during this years annual Grammy Awards. This year marks the e 54th annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for Februrary 12th, and will mark the first time Rihanna and Coldplay perform together live.

The Rock music genre is slipping, and Pop music has come to take it’s place.
Thanks to artists such as Lady Gaga and Adele, the Pop Music genre has surpassed the Rock Music genre for sales in 2011. In 2011 alone, Lady Gaga brought in an astounding $90 million in earnings, and Adele has covered the billboards with hit albums 21 at #1 and 19 at #4. Big hitting album sales such as this have pushed Pop music forward in the charts covering one third of the market (33.6%), up almost 3% from 2010 performance. Lady Gaga is in the news yet again. According to Forbes Lady Gaga generated $90 during 2011, thanks to strong sales on her ‘Born This Way’ album, Monster Ball Tour, and various endorsements. Looking at the success the Fame Monster has achieved in such a short time, it’s clear Lady Gaga has an dedicated fan base, and her style and pizazz only helps grow. The cover girl is back & working on new material with a new label.
Madonna recently signed a three album deal with Universal Music Group’s Interscope for $3 million. The new contract is in addition to her ongoing 10 year contract with Live Nation (which she signed in 2007; potentially worth as much as $100 million). Madonna joins existing Interscope artists including Lady Gaga, P Diddy and 50 Cent.
Live Nation CEO Irving Azoff originally mentioned in Feburary that a marger could happen for the star sometime later in the year. ”Live Nation, prior to the merger, entered into some of these all-rights deals, so there are certain artists, Madonna being one of them, that there is a recorded-music strategy,” Azoff said. “Once she gets the album recorded, we’ll sit down with her and her manager, Guy Oseary, and figure out what’s best for the record. It has to start with the music.”

On Friday December 2nd, Billboards held their 7th annual Billboard Women in Music event at Capitale in New York. Stars Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj were both honored in the event with Taylor Swift awarded “Woman of the Year” and Nicki Minaj awarded “Rising Star”.

December 6th marks the release of Amy Winehouse‘s posthumous album “Lioness: Hidden Treasures”.
Mitch Winehouse, Amy’s father stated, “The family view was nothing was going to go out unless it was comparable to ‘Frank’ or ‘Back To Black’. If it wasn’t as good as that then we wouldn’t have allowed it to go out.”
So while it was admittedly hard for the family to listen to the album, they gave their permission for the LP to be put out after deciding it was “comparable” to her previous studio albums, which included 2003′s ‘Frank’ and 2005′s ‘Back To Black’. At the start of May, Lady Gaga finally brought down the curtains on her Monster Ball tour in front of a jam packed audience of 55,000 in Mexico. The extended tour that took place on four continents had been going on for almost one and a half year before she decided to wrap it up.
