3 Things We Love about 90s Music

Almost all of the people alive today can relate to 90s music. When we hear music from that time, we just cannot help ourselves – we sing along and sometimes we even groove with it. 90s music is not easy to define: it is a diverse combination of many artists and music genres; there is no definite artist or genre that one can singly used to identify 90s music.

There are thousands of reasons to love 90s music. For you it may be a specific artist or it may be the upbeat sound of the music. Some may tell you that it is both. You might be given all manner of reasons, but here are 3 things that people love about the 90s music.

A Trip Down the Memory Lane

Whether one will admit or not, listening to the 90s music gives a person an excuse to have a trip down the memory lane…and for some of us, it can be a pretty long one. Some of us may have been in the prime of our youths during this period or we may have been just blossoming. The point is: whatever experiences we had during this period can be related to a song. So listening to old songs bring back the memories and all we have to do is cruise down that memory lane. If someone asks, we can blame it on the song.

Birth of Legendary Artists

Many of the artists that we now know and love started during the 90s. So we must give credit to this period and all the producers that exist during that time for being able to discover our favorite artists. A lot of great songs were created during this period as well. Some of those songs are still in our iPods, cell phones or computers. We simply cannot get enough of them. Even the pictures of the artists that we admire are still tacked on our walls. If asked why, one can simply answer that these artists are still relevant today, so there is really no point removing them from the walls. But deep inside, the real reason is that we cannot get over them.

Diversity

As mentioned, there are many artists and genres that represent the 90s time period. So you get to listen to a numerous styles of music and get to know a lot of artists. There is a certain diversity that has not been present during any other period; this diversity is what makes the 90s more memorable than other decades of music.

Diversity is what really defines the 90s music. You can look at it as a combination of a lot of things. It is a healthy mix of a lot of genres and styles that had not been brought together ever before. The concept of mixing styles might seem weird to some, but it has really brought about a lot of really good and memorable songs that are still alive up until now. So get that MP3 player out and listen to your favorite 90s music and then enjoy your trip back to a simpler time.

Jobs in the Music Industry

Having a career in the music industry does not mean you have to have a great voice or musical talent. There are a lot of careers within the industry that require other skills such as marketing, promotions, and design. Your dream to be a part of the music industry does not have to be crushed just because you cannot sing or a play the guitar or drums. The industry has a lot of opportunities to be involved with music, fame, and stardom. Here are some jobs to consider if you want to be a part of it.

If you are really passionate about some of your favorite bands or artists, being a promoter may be the job for you. Promoting bands can be a lot of fun and is a great job for someone with a lot of passion, an outgoing personality, and who loves live music. Promoting bands can be as simple as handing out flyers for their next concert, or as complicated as maintaining a website for the band. Music promoters’ jobs are to promote concerts.

If you like to be in control or naturally take on the role as a leader, you may want to consider being a music agent or artist manager. These jobs require a lot of organization, keeping up with schedules, and making things happen for the band or artist you are managing. You have to keep an artist’s best interest in mind to ensure a promising and successful career. A manager takes on a lot of responsibility, especially business opportunities, so that musicians can focus on creating and recording music. An agent works with promoters and managers to plan and implement concerts and live music shows.

Another great job in the industry, especially if you are creative, is to be a cover design illustrator. This person designs the covers of albums for an artist or band. You do not have to be musically creative in to be in the music industry, you can be artistically creative. Designing the cover of an album is very important and can also brand an image for the musician you are working with. Album covers are iconic and sometimes remembered forever.

One of the best ways to help a band strive in the industry is to be in radio. Traditional and Internet Radio stations also have a lot of jobs in this industry alone. You can be a producer, a DJ, or be in production and voice overs. Working on a radio program allows you the space and ability to introduce new talent and promote the talent and play music from your favorite artists.

If you like to teach or work with aspiring artists, you can work in the industry as a music educator. You do not need to work at a school as a music teacher, but you can have music studios and teach voice or instrument lessons. A lot of record labels have music educators that work with bands on technique, tone, tempo, and rhythm among other things.

The music industry is not narrowed down to just singers and musicians. There are a lot of opportunities to be a part of the industry for music lovers and creative souls.

Online Music Store Lala Shuts Down

If you are a fan of great music then you are probably no stranger to music stores online and Internet radio stations. You may be such a fanatic that you also buy old records and CDs of your favorite artists as a way to archive music. Perhaps you are on your computer so much that you prefer to do all your shopping online including music buying. You may also listen to all your music online and use your computer as your personal radio station creating playlists of your favorite tunes.

If you are a fan of Apple and have an iPhone, you may have heard of or are currently using their music store called Lala. It was originally created by Bill Nguyen, an entrepreneur from Silicon Valley. On December 4, 2009, Apple bought the music store. The service allows its members to create personalized playlists and play full length songs, purchase CDs, purchase MP3 versions of songs, and participate in forums and be involved in an online music community.

Apple recently announced that they are shutting down Lala. All services will be ended on the 31st of this month, and no new members are being accepted at this time. For current members who have credit on their site, all monies will be refunded but only in the form of iTunes credits. You may or may not be a fan of this announcement. If you do not use iTunes, I can see how you would be bothered by this type of refund.

If you are not purchasing music or CDs from online music stores, but still prefer to listen to online music you may want to consider finding an Internet radio station. There are a lot of channels with different genres that play the music you like. Some Internet radio stations allow you to create personalized playlists where you become the DJ and offer iPhone apps to listen to the music from your playlist.

Many people are wondering the motive behind Apple’s decision. Are they trying to push sales on iTunes? Are they developing a new online music store? Are they creating a new cloud based phone application for streaming music? If you are a member of Lala you only have until the end of the month to find a new outlet for listening to music online. If you liked the online community and forums that Lala had, you will be pleased to know that a lot of Internet radio stations have the same type of communities.

Launch Your Band with Online Music

Forming a band can take a lot of work and time, but when it is finally formed the payoff is rewarding. Finding the right musicians for a band is only half the work. You then have to create amazing music, start working on a fan base, and work to make your band stand out above all the rest. There are different approaches you can take to get your music heard, but the best way is to use the advantages the Internet has. Here are some steps for forming a band and how to launch your band with online music.

Before you can have a band, you must have musicians. Finding the right mix and sound requires a lot of work and auditions. Musicians have to be able to play together, work together, and go on the road together without drama or fighting. You should audition for a lead singer, back up singer, drummer, guitarist, and bass guitarist as the foundation of the band. Depending on your genre of music you may need a keyboardist or saxophone player for instance.

The next step when forming your band, after you have solidified your choices of musicians, is the most epic; choosing a name for the group. This may require a lot of brainstorming and list making for choosing the perfect name. For some bands, choosing name may be more impulsive. Sometimes choosing a name will come really easy and other times you may need to be inspired by something before choosing one.

After the preliminary steps are taken, your band can then begin on writing music and practicing. If you are not a tribute band then you should write original music. You can have your music copyrighted before you produce an album. You can write music that is genre specific or play around with different sounds and style. One thing you should always do is practice and practice often.

Once your band and music is ready, you should launch your band and music online. This is a great way to have your music heard by a lot of people in one place. You can submit your music to Internet radio stations or other online music websites. Creating a personalized website is a great way for your fans to connect with you and learn about the group. A lot of bands have been discovered on the Internet and it is a great starting point to launch your future success as a band.

You can make vides and upload the video hosting sites and your website so people can see how you perform. Posting videos of practice sessions, gig, and recording sessions will showcase your band’s talents. Using online music channels can launch your band into stardom.

Online Music Singles

A lot of people listen to music on Internet radio stations or on another online music outlet. There are a lot of reasons for this including the ease of finding music you like, fewer commercial interruptions, and music is more accessible online especially if people spend a lot of time on their computers for work or school. Musicians have had to keep up with the demands of people spending time listening to music on the Internet. A lot of them release their new singles online before they come out with a new album.

Releasing a new single on the Internet is like a teaser to a new album they may be working on. A musician can also make just as much money releasing a single first before the album because they make money from online music channels and radio stations. It is an honor and can boost their career if they become the most downloaded music star. It can also determine if the record sales will be good or bad, and they can get feedback from their fans about their music. Releasing a single online has many advantages for a musician.

One pop star that has achieved success, fame, and fortune is Miley Cyrus. She has come a long way from her days on the Disney Channel as Hannah Montana. She has matured and so have her fans, and it really shows in her music. Just as musicians have to keep up with new technology and what their fans are doing, she has certainly done the same with her career. As her fans from the Disney channel grew older, she changed her image to cater to a more mature older fan base.

Miley took advantage of the Internet and its advantages and released her new single online this weekend. You can listen to her online music from radio stations on the Internet. Her newest single from the album she is currently working on can be played from her Myspace profile. If her new single has positive feedback then her album will surely have continued success.

Miley Cyrus’ new single is called Can’t Be Tamed. It is different and has a fresh taste from her original sound. It was an unexpected sound from her but the song was really good. Taking a risk and changing music styles can be challenging for artists. Some fans may not appreciate the new sound and others will certainly enjoy it. Other artists who want to take a risk should also release a few singles online before the album. The fans and critiques can respond with helpful comments and criticism.
