britney spears tree look away Britney Shares Her Thoughts on ‘Femme Fatale’In a lengthy Twitter post, Britney shared, “I would describe it as moody, edgy pop with A LOT of energy. I co-wrote a couple of songs. I think it’s some of the best work I have ever done. There are a few mid-tempos that could be considered ballads. I have a lot of history with #MaxMartin and @TheDoctorLuke so it’s always fun to collaborate with them. They make such incredible music. I’m so excited and I can’t wait for you guys to hear it. I think its some of the best work I have ever done!”

She then went on to thanks her dedicated fan base for sticking with here through all the ups and downs of her career. “Just want to say that I really love you guys and can’t thank you enough for the support throughout my entire career,” Britney tweeted.

Famous Runners Up

In a competition you always strive to be number one, the best, the winner. However, there can only be one winner and this is true in music competitions as well. The winner from a music competition gets a lot of attention that likely result in fame and fortune. Sometimes though the runner up becomes more successful than or just as successful as the winner. We’ve seen this happen over time in music competitions such as Star Search and American Idol. Pop sensations Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears were runners- up on Star Search. Here are the runners-up from a more modern music competition, American Idol.

Starting in order of seasons, the runner up of season one was Justin Guarini. He lost to Kelly Clarkson, who is now one of the world’s recognized recording artists. I would say in this instance, he had some fame but now as much as Kelly. He released two albums after American Idol that were called Justin Guarini and Stranger Things Have Happened.

Season Two, which aired in 2003, had some tough competition. The two finalists were Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. The runner up that year was Clay Aiken. After the show, he had a lot of success in the mainstream pop music industry. Maybe even more than Ruben Studdard did. Clay has won numerous music awards and has released five albums. Ruben has released four albums, and is better known as an R&B singer.

The runner up in season three was Diana DeGarmo. She was beat out by Fantasia Barrino. She released two albums called Blue Skies and Unplugged in Nashville. Soon after American Idol, she decided to sing country music instead of pop music. I would say that Fantasia got more of the spotlight in this scenario. However, Fantasia doesn’t have the fame that Clay Aiken or Kelly Clarkson has.

In season four the top two contestants were Bo Bice and Carrie Underwood. The winner of this was Carrie Underwood which left Bo as the runner up. Both of these contestants were not known for their pop music style. Bo sings southern rock and Carrie sings country music. Bo has only released two albums which are called The Real Thing and See the Light. In this case, the runner up didn’t have as much success as the winner.

Season five was a fun one to watch and had a lot of character. The runner up was Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks was the winner. Katharine released two albums, and has great success as an actress. She has had roles in different movies and television shows such as the House Bunny and CSI: New York.

In 2007, season six aired. The competition was great and the runner up was Blake Lewis. The winner that year was Jordin Sparks. He has released two albums, A.D.D. (Audio Day Dream) and Heartbreak on Vinyl. The second album has some songs that will be release this year as singles and will have to be determined their position on the Billboard music chart.

Season seven had a young runner up, David Archuleta. He was beat out by David Cook. Archuleta got a lot of attention because of his age, looks, and great voice. He can also play musical instruments like the guitar and piano. He has been nominated and won a lot of Teen Choice awards for his music and talent.

Season eight which aired last year had so many great singers. It was narrowed down to Adam Lambert and Kris Allen. Adam Lambert was the runner up, but that hasn’t stopped him from being so successful.

Battle of the Boy Bands

In the mid to late 90s a modern style band hit the music scene. We were introduced to contemporary, pop style boy bands. The music charts were topped with singles from NSYNC, the Backstreet boys, and 98 Degrees. There were rivalries from fans and they argued which boy band was better, more famous, had better music, and who had better looking members. NSYNC and the Backstreet boys got more hype and popularity than 98 Degrees did, but they held their own in the battle of the boy bands. As the members grew up, the bands faded away. Some members from the groups tried as solo careers. Some made it big and others are just a memory from our past. Here is a look back at the boy bands from the 90s.

NSYNC was comprised of members: Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass. They are a pop group that formed in 1995 out of Florida. Worldwide, they have sold nearly 60 million albums. However, they didn’t sell as many albums as the Backstreet Boys. They recorded under the labels RCA and Jive Records. They produced their first album in 1995 and the band officially broke up and went their separate ways in 2002. Justin and JC were the lead vocals for the group, but everyone sang and harmonized together. They were incredible pop dancers and their concerts sold out all over the world. They toured all over the world for four years starting in 1998. They released four albums which were called: NSYNC, Home for Christmas, No Strings Attached, and Celebrity.

The boy band that sold the most albums worldwide was the Backstreet Boys, and to date have sold 130 million albums. Like NSYNC they also formed in Florida, and their group members were: Brian Littrell, AJ McLean, Nick Carter, and Howie Dorough. They recorded under Jive Records label. All seven of their albums reached the number one position on the Billboard music charts. Their albums are titled: Backstreet Boys, Backstreet’s Back, Millennium, Black and Blue, Never Gone, Unbreakable, and This is Us. They have been touring for more than ten years, and their most current tour is called This Is Us Tour which will wrap up in the spring of this year. Interestingly, both the Backstreet boys and NSYNC had the same founder, Lou Pearlman.

Another boy band to hit the scene during this time was 98 Degrees. They were formed on the opposite side of the country as the other two bands. The group consisted of brothers Drew and Nick Lachey and two other members Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre. They recorded under the labels Universal and Motown and released five albums called: 98 Degrees, 98 Degrees and Rising, This Christmas, Revelation, and the Collection. Unlike the other two boy bands that created pop music, 98 Degrees incorporated R&B, soul, urban, and contemporary sounds into their music genre. They were a boy band in nature but wanted to separate themselves from NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys. They focused on writing their own music and staying in tune with a unique more urban sound.
