KT Tunstall

Kate Victoria "KT" Tunstall(born 23 June 1975) is a Scottish singer-songwriter and guitarist. She broke into the public eye with a 2004 live solo performance of her song "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" on Later... with Jools Holland. She has enjoyed commercial and critical success since, picking up three nominations before winning a BRIT Award, and a Grammy Award nomination.She is also the recipient of an Ivor Novello Award.

She has released five albums internationally: Eye to the Telescope (2004), KT Tunstall's Acoustic Extravaganza (2006), Drastic Fantastic (2007), Tiger Suit (2010) and Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon (2013). She has also appeared in two episodes of the comedy series This is Jinsy on Sky Atlantic. Since 2013, she is working with American artist Howe Gelb.

Tunstall has written soundtracks for films; "Boy" from The Kid, "Miracle" for Winter's Tale, "We Could Be Kings" for the Disney movie Million Dollar Arm's Million Dollar Arm (soundtrack), and "Float," "Strange Sight" and "1000 Years." for Disney's Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast.

KT sang guest vocals for three tracks from the Oi Va Voi album Laughter Through Tears: Ladino Song, Refugee, and Yesterday's Mistake.
In an interview, when KT was asked what song she wished she had written, she said she wished she had written Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who.
A clip of KT's song "Suddenly I See" was used in the second episode of the show The Singing Bee. The contestant knew all the words.
KT Tunstall's 3rd album, Drastic Fantastic, is due to be released on September 18, 2007.
KT Tunstall performed at Giants Stadium on July 7th, 2007 as part of the Live Earth concert.
The name Kate is a shortened version of Katherine, in Greek times, which means "pure".
KT's birth father was a folk singer, a career that KT had decided to follow years before she discovered that about her father.
KT met her birth mother for the first time when she was in her early 20's.

KT Tunstall has performed the song Ain't Misbehavin' by Ella Fitzgerald, in the Later with Jools Holland show, with Jools on the piano.
KT has released her second album, named KT Tunstall's Acoustic Extravaganza. It is a CD and a DVD, that includes special features and behind the scenes.
KT's song Suddenly I See was used twice already on a soundtrack:

In So You Think You Can Dance, it was used as a background song during the female contestants' goodbye videos.

It was the on soundtrack of The Devil Wears Prada, the movie starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
KT was adopted at a young age.
KT performed the song Get Ur Freak On (by Missy Elliott) in the BBC's Live Lounge.
KT's Black Horse and The Cherry Tree was covered by Katharine McPhee on American Idol 5th season, in the Top 5 week - May 2, 2006 (this song was chosen as current Billboard Top 10).
KT uses an AKAI E2 headrush loop pedal on stage, which she affectionately calls "Wee Bastard".
KT has an older brother named Jo and a younger brother named Daniel, who has a hearing impairment.
KT is often nicknamed "One-Woman Band" - She usually sings and plays different parts of her songs and combines them. For example, in the Black Horse & The Cherry Tree clip - She plays 3 different instruments, sings and does back-voices.
In the video clip to Suddenly I See, KT appeared twice - as though she sings a duet with herself.
KT is the singer in the song Lazarus, by Violin player Sophie Solomon.

KT is of a Irish (father's side) and Chinese (mother's side) descent.
KT joined the folk group Fence Collective after college. She also met the Beta Band, and joined them later on.
When KT was 16 years old, she started writing her own music and songs.
KT began practicing Piano and Flute when she was only 6 years old.
