Paul Anka

Paul Albert Anka, OC (born July 30, 1941) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and actor. Anka became famous in the late 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s with hit songs like "Diana", "Lonely Boy", "Put Your Head on My Shoulder", and "(You're) Having My Baby". He wrote such well-known music as the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and one of Tom Jones's biggest hits, "She's a Lady", as well as the English lyrics for Frank Sinatra's signature song, "My Way" (originally the French song "Comme d'habitude"). He was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2005.

In 1983, he co-wrote the song "I Never Heard" with Michael Jackson. It was retitled and released in 2009 under the name "This Is It".An additional song that Jackson co-wrote with Anka from this 1983 session, "Love Never Felt So Good", was since discovered and was released on Jackson's posthumous album Xscape in 2014. The song was also released by Johnny Mathis in 1984.

Anka was born in Ottawa, Ontario to Camelia (née Tannis) and Andrew Emile "Andy" Anka, Sr., who owned a restaurant called the Locanda. His parents were both Antiochian Orthodox Christian Lebanese and Syrian descent. Anka's father was Syrian, his mother was Lebanese.

Anka sang with the St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Church choir under the direction of Frederick Karam, with whom he studied music theory. He studied piano with Winnifred Rees. He attended Fisher Park High School, where he was part of a vocal trio called the Bobby Soxers.

Anka became a naturalized US citizen in 1990.

Daughter, Amanda, is married to Arrested Development actor, Jason Bateman.
He and his band tour at least 35 weeks out of the year (including his performances in Las Vegas).
His song My way was covered by Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Sid Vicious, Nina Simone, Gypsy Kings, Julio Iglesias and Robbie Williams.
Paul Anka is named 21st successful artist in Billboard's history.
He recorded over 900 songs and released over 125 albums.
When he was a child he wanted to become a journalist, not a singer or songwriter.
His theme song for the The tonight Show was played over 1,400,000 times. That's the most played TV theme ever.
He recorded not only in English, he recorded also in Japanese, German, Spanish, French and Italian.
His song Put Your Head on My Shoulder was featured in the game Hitman: Contracts.
He has five daughters named Amelia, Anthea, Alicia, Amanda, Alexandra.
He plays piano, guitar and drums.
In 2002, he became an Honorary Ambassador of Tourism in Canada.
Since 2002, the 27th of April is deemed as Paul Anka Day in Ottawa, Canada.
In 1991 he received the prestigious Order of Arts and Letters by the French Government.
In 1993, he was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame
In 1984 he received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He wrote the theme song for the big movie successThe Longest Day in 1962.
For that he was even nominated for an Academy Award.
In 2005 he received the Order of Canada handed over by Governor General Adrienne Clarkson on June 10.
He got his own show in Las Vegas.
