Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel (born February 19, 1963 in Paddington, London) is a Grammy award winning English soul singer-songwriter of Nigerian and Brazilian descent, professionally known only by his first name, Seal. A childhood battle with discoid lupus left him with distinctive facial scarring and hair loss. He released his debut studio album Seal in 1991 and has since released 1994’s Seal II, 1998’s Human Being, 2003’s Seal IV, 2007’s System and 2010’s Commitment. He has also released four live albums and three greatest hits collection albums. He is married to German supermodel Heidi Klum and they have three children together.

Music career

After a short time singing in local clubs and bars, in the 1980s, he joined Push, a British funk band, and toured with them in Japan. In Asia, he joined a blues band in Thailand for a while before separating from the group and journeying throughout India on his own. Seal returned to England, sleeping on the couch of friend Julian Bunster, then a model. He sometimes asked him “Do I sing well?”; to which he often met the response that he sang better than most current artists. His break came when he met the producer Adamski. He was given the lyrics of the song “Killer”, which was a huge hit in 1990.

As the vocalist on the Adamski single “Killer”, Seal became a hot property when the single reached number one in 1990 in the UK. Like many other Adamski tracks, the single was also a hit in night clubs.

Henry Olusegun Adeola Samuel (born 19 February 1963), known by the mononym Seal, is a British soul and R&B singer-songwriter. He has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide and is known for his numerous international hits, including "Kiss from a Rose", which appeared on the soundtrack to the 1995 film Batman Forever. He was a coach on The Voice Australia in 2012 and 2013.

Seal has won numerous music awards throughout his career, including three Brit Awards—winning Best British Male in 1992, four Grammy Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award. As a songwriter, he received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award, for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, in consecutive years for "Killer" (1990) and "Crazy" (1991).

Seal's facial scars are from discoid lupus erythematosus. Seal suffered from the skin condition when he was a teenager.
Seal was nominated for a Grammy award for 'Best Male Pop Vocal Performer' for the song 'Love's Divine' from the album titled Seal IV in 2005.
Seal was considered for the role of Selari in the James Bond film Casino Royale in 2006.
Seal has dated German super model Tatyana Patitz and Tyra Banks before meeting Heidi.
Seal made a comeback in the dance and club scenes when he co-wrote and sang on the hit song 'My Vision' by Jakkatu in 2002.
Seal completed an entire album, and realized that it was not up to his standards, and shelved the project without releasing a single track off of it, in 1999.
Seal left ZTT Records and signed on with Warner Bros Records in 1997.
Seal recorded a cover of the Steve Miller Band classic, 'Fly like an Eagle' for the Space Jam soundtrack.
Seal released a third single titled 'Kiss From a Rose' to a lukewarm response from fans and critics. It was later, when the single was used for the soundtrack in Batman Forever, that the song obtained worldwide recognition and success. 'Kiss From a Rose' went on to win two Grammy Awards, for 'Record of the Year' and 'Song of the Year'.
Seal cites his influences as being Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, and Marvin Gaye.
Seal released his second self-titled album in 1994, and was a success with critics. It received a Grammy nomination for 'Album of the Year'.
Seal signed on with ZTT records and released his debut album in 1991. The album was self titled, Seal and produced by Trevor Horn.
Seal became noticed when he sang the vocals on the Adamski single, 'Killer'. The single reached #1 in the United Kingdom in 1990.
Seal never thought of becoming a performer as a child, instead he went to school to study architecture and engineering.
Seal’s wife, Heidi Klum gave birth to a baby boy, weighing 8 pounds, 11 ounces (3.9kg), on the 22nd November 2006. Heidi and Seal have named him Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel.
One of Seal's former managers won a court judgment in June 2006 after claiming he was owed commissions from the artist's first two albums. The judge ordered Seal to make an interim payment of $1.2 million.
In June 2006, Seal and his wife, Heidi Klum, announced they are expecting their third child together.
His song Crazy was covered by the band Mushroomhead in 2003 and also by singer Alanis Morrisette in 2005.
Seal was born as Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel in London, England. His parents, Adebisi & Francis Samuel are both immigrants. Seal went through a childhood battle with discoid lupus erythematosis, that left him permantly facially disfigured, and caused hair loss.
He is of Brazilian and Nigerian descent.
Seal married Heidi klum on May 10, 2005. They share three children named Leni, Henry, and Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel.
