Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr. (born October 20, 1971 in Long Beach, California, United States), better known by his stage name Snoop Dogg, is a Grammy award nominated rapper, producer and actor. Snoop is best known as a famous MC in the West Coast hip hop scene, and for being one of producer Dr. Dre’s most notable protégés. He made his rap debut in 1992 on Dre’s debut album The Chronic, and then released his debut album, Doggystyle, to much critical and public acclaim. His mother nicknamed him “Snoopy” as a child, and he took the stage name Snoop Doggy Dogg when he began recording. He changed his name to Snoop Dogg in 1996 when he left his original record label, Death Row Records, and signed with No Limit Records.

He has been affiliated with the Crips, a U.S. street gang. Several of his cousins, including RBX, Nate Dogg, Daz Dillinger, and Warren G are also hip hop artists and often collaborate with Snoop. In 2000, Snoop (as “Michael J. Corleone”) directed Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle, a pornographic film produced by Hustler. This film, combining hip-hop with X-rated material, was a huge success and won “Top Selling Release of the Year” at the 2002 AVN Awards. Driven by this success, Snoop directed Snoop Dogg’s Hustlaz: Diary of a Pimp in 2002 (this time using the nickname “Snoop Scorsese”).

As a rapper, he is perhaps best known for his “lazy drawl” — a slurred, distinctively calm, laid-back, and rhythmically-complex lyrical delivery. His lyrics have often been criticized for their glorification of misogyny, violence and gangsterism; however, he is often credited for accurately portraying street slang and attitudes.

Cordozar Broadus, Jr. (born October 20, 1971), known by his stage names Snoop Doggy Dogg, Snoop Dogg, and later Snoop Lion, is an American rapper, singer-songwriter and actor. Snoop has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. His music career began in 1992 when he was discovered by Dr. Dre. He collaborated on Dre's solo debut The Chronic (1992), and on the theme song to the feature film Deep Cover.

Snoop's debut album, Doggystyle, was released in 1993 under Death Row Records, debuting at No. 1 on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. Selling almost a million copies in the first week of its release, Doggystyle became certified 4× platinum in 1994 and spawned several hit singles, including "What's My Name" and "Gin & Juice". In 1994, Snoop released a soundtrack on Death Row Records for the short film Murder Was The Case, starring himself. His second album Tha Doggfather (1996), also debuted at No. 1 on both charts with "Snoop's Upside Ya Head" as the lead single. The album was certified double platinum in 1997.

After leaving Death Row, Snoop signed with No Limit Records, where he recorded his next three albums. Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told (1998), No Limit Top Dogg (1999), and Tha Last Meal (2000). Snoop then signed with Priority/Capitol/EMI Records in 2002, where he released Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss. He then signed with Geffen Records in 2004 for his next three albums R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, and Ego Trippin'. Malice 'n Wonderland (2009) and Doggumentary (2011), were released on Priority. Snoop Dogg has starred in motion pictures and hosted several television shows including, Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, Snoop Dogg's Father Hood, and Dogg After Dark. He also coaches a youth football league and high school football team. In September 2009, Snoop was hired by EMI as the chairman of a reactivated Priority Records.

In 2012, after a trip to Jamaica, Snoop announced a conversion to the Rastafari movement and a new alias, Snoop Lion. Under the new moniker, he released a reggae album, Reincarnated, and a documentary film of the same name, of his Jamaican experience, in early 2013. He is currently working on his last solo studio album under his rap moniker Snoop Dogg.

He strongly encourages kids to participate in extracurricular activities. He subsidized about $2 million every year to extra curricular activities for children.
He started his own youth football league called the Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL).
He is the natural son of Verhell Varnado and Beverly Tate. However his mother married Cardozar Calvin Broadus Sr., who adopted his stepson.
He is the cousin of NFL offensive back Deshaun Hill.
He is the nephew of Bootsy Collins, a legendary funk bassists and member of the band Parliament-Funkadelic.
Snoop is known for using a unique for of double speak in his songs. He adds the word "izzle" to the end of a word whenever he can.
He is married to Shante Taylor. They have three kids.
He is a former member of the Crips gang.
He is a diehard fan of USC football. He also likes NFL Football. He likes the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In September 2007, Snoop Dogg was sentenced to complete 160 hours of community service and placed on three years probation after he pleaded guilty to one charge of possession of a dangerous weapon after his arrest in September 2006. The court also ordered him to donate $10,000 to charity.
In April 2007, Snoop Dogg was denied entry into the UK, due to his arrest over a violent brawl at London’s Heathrow Airport the previous year.
In March 2007, Snoop Dogg and a female companion were arrested by police for suspected drug use. Police took body samples from the pair, with laboratory test results expected in 2-3 weeks.
In November 2006, security screeners at John Wayne Airport discovered a collapsible police baton in Snoop Dogg’s carry-on bag, that resulted in prosecutors laying charges on him. On January 25th 2007, he pleaded not guilty to the charge of carrying deadly weapons possessions.
In 1993, Snoop Dogg was arrested on suspicion of being an accomplice to murder after a gang member was shot from a car that Snoop was travelling in. He was acquitted in 1996.
In 1990, Snoop Dogg was found guilty of possessing cocaine and in 1993 was sentenced to three years‘ probation after police found another gun in his car.
In 2001, Snoop Dogg was charged with possessing marijuana after it was found stashed in his tour bus.

Snoop was arrested outside The Tonight Show on November 28th, 2006 for allegedly possessing drugs and a firearm. Detectives from Burbank Police Department served a search warrant on him outside NBC studios around 7:30 pm. Police say that they found the rapper in posession of cocaine, a firearm, and a large amount of marijuana. He was also cited for having a false compartment in his vehicle. The entertainer had just performed on Jay Leno's talk show, and was leaving the studio when Police pulled him over on Bob Hope Drive and placed him under arrest, setting bail at $60,000. Law enforcement officials said that the search warrant was conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into the Dogg's arrest earlier this month.
Snoop announced on November 16th, 2006 that he was unleashing a new line of clothes, for the dogs. He is making gangster hoodies for pooches, faux print animal jackets, and toys that play his music.
Snoop turned himself in to Orange County Sherrifs on Monday November 6th, 2006. Four days after an arrest warrant was issued. He rolled up in his deep purple Porsche Carrera, was booked, and released after posting h is $150,000.00 bail. Snoop will be back in court on the charges of felony posession of a concealed weapon, he had a collapsible baton in his baggage at the airport, on December 4th, 2006.
Snoop was arrested October 26th, 2006 for possesion of Marijuana and a gun at the Bob Hope Airport. He was parked in the white zone, and was being ticked for a parking violation, when the car was searched, and the items were found. He was released on $35,000.00 bond and will appear in court on December 12th, 2006.
Snoop is co-creator of "Chronic Candy". A candy that tastes like marijuana from Switzerland that is currently banned in most United States cities.
On May 15, 2006 the Home Office decided that Snoop is denied entrance to the UK for the foreseeable future and most likely forever. This order was due to the fracas at Heathrow Airport along with his previous US convictions for fire arms & drugs.
In May 2006, Snoop and members of his group were arrested in Heathrow Airport, for 'violent disorder and affray' (creating a brawl or disturbance) after being turned away from a first class lounge. They were denied entry because some of the members of his group were in Economy, not 1st class. After they were escorted outside, Snoop & frieds threw Whiskey botles at a 'Duty Free' store.
Snoop refers to Frank Sinatra as the 'original gangsta'.
Snoop's favorite sport teams are: Los Angeles Lakers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the USC Trojans.
Snoop released his own line of adult movies in 2004.
