Champagne Flutes is a trio comprising of past and present flute students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama). Founded in September 2009, its members include Matthew Howells, Elizabeth Lawton, Rachel Flynn. Champagne Flutes were placed Highly Commended in the Governor’s Chamber Music Competition in 2012 and have recently been accepted onto the Live Music Now Scheme. Based in Scotland, Champagne Flutes have travelled across Britain to give performances including the Haddington Concert Society, the Dormy House Hotel, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland flute department showcase, and the opening of the Aylsham & District Care Trust Community Centre. Their diverse range of repertoire ranges from the early baroque period to works by today’s composers, allowing the trio to adapt for any occasion from weddings and functions, to recitals and educational workshops.
We are a group of female flute players who are passionate about the flute and flute playing. We comprise the flute section of Burton Concert Band plus several friends and feature concert flutes, piccolos, alto and bass flutes. Our members are resident in the Burton / Lichfield / Derby / Stafford area of central England.
We rehearse on a regular basis to improve our skills, along with our trainer & musical director Roy Harrison, who is a highly experienced semi-professional flute player and former principal flute of Derby Concert Orchestra and Derby Chamber Orchestra.
In addition to playing together for our own interest and improvement we also provide musical entertainment for a variety of events such as concerts, weddings, after-dinner entertainment and charity events etc.
For over 13 years we have performed to a high standard, a variety of musical programmes from our comprehensive library, ranging from Grieg to Gershwin and Debussy to Disney, featuring various combinations of flutes and piccolos plus alto and bass flute.
