Steve Azar

Azar was born and grew up in Greenville, Mississippi. He began writing songs at 10 years old, which led him to develop as a guitarist. Azar had his first Nashville recording session when he was 14. After high school Azar attended Delta State University where he played show after show, including the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans. Mississippi native Faith Hill remembers being at his shows as a fan in the front row. Graduating with a degree in business-management, Azar moved to Nashville in 1993, and in two days he was offered three song-publishing contracts.

By the time he was 5, he had begun performing at his own house with a toy guitar
In 1982, Azar entered Delta State University, intending to major in pre-med with an emphasis on chemistry
Three years later, however, he switched his major to management, although his interested had shifted to music
Azar and formed a band with his brother Joe and developed a following throughout the Southeast
The band logged over 200 shows a year from Florida to Tennessee, including two New Year's performances at Overton Square
After seven years on the road, Azar decided to find a record deal
He made the move to Nashville in 1993 at the urging of his friend, PGA champ Jim Gallagher, Jr. and signed a publishing deal, then a record deal with River North Records
After leaving River North, Azar took time away from his music and came back in 2002
