At the 13th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (2007), Eddie was awarded "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Theatrical Motion Picture)" for his performance in Dreamgirls.
Eddie won the Golden Globe Award for 'Best Supporting Actor' for his portrayal of James "Thunder" Early in Bill Condon's film Dreamgirls.
Following their split in July 2005, Eddie and his wife, Nicole, have divorced after 13 years of marriage. Eddie has agreed to support their five children and share their assets equally.
In the early 1980's, Eddie got his break as a stand-up comedian at Manhattan's Comedy Showcase, Comic Strip club.
Eddie got a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame in June 1996.
