Huey Lewis and the News

  • There is one whole chapter dedicated to Huey's band, "Huey Lewis & The News" in the Bret Easton Ellis novel, "American Psycho."
  • After graduating from high school, Huey gained acceptance to engineering school at Cornell University, but dropped out to spend a year traveling through Europe.

  • Huey Lewis & The News' song, "The Power of Love" from the film, Back to the Future was nominated for an Academy Award in 1986 but lost out to Lionel Richie's "Say You, Say Me" from the film, White Nights.

  • Although Huey licensed "Hip to be Square" to be used in the film "American Psycho", he forbade the song to be included on the the CD soundtrack.

  • Huey successfully sued Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarizing his song "I Want A New Drug" (based over similarities Parker Jr. used in the opening theme of "Ghostbusters"). The two settled the matter out of court and agreed not to talk about it in public. However, in 2001, Huey talked about the case in public on an episode of "Behind the Music". Parker Jr. then sued Lewis for violating their agreement.
