Jason Mraz


Jason Thomas Mraz (/məˈræz/; born June 23, 1977) is an American singer-songwriter who first came to prominence in the San Diego coffeehouse scene in 2000. In 2002, he released his debut studio album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come, which contained the hit single "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)". With the release of his second album, Mr. A-Z, in 2005, Mraz achieved major commercial success. The album peaked at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 100,000 copies in the US. In 2008, Mraz released his third studio album, We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and was an international commercial success primarily due to the hit "I'm Yours". The song peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving him his first top ten single, and spent a then-record 76 weeks on the Hot 100. His fourth album, Love Is a Four Letter Word, peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200, his highest-charting album to date.

Mraz has won two Grammy Awards and received two additional nominations, and has also won two Teen Choice Awards, a People's Choice Award and the Hal David Songwriters Hall of Fame Award. He has earned Platinum and multi-Platinum certifications in over 20 countries, and has toured in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and parts of Africa. As of July 2014, Mraz has sold over seven million albums, and over 11.5 millions digital singles. His musical style, from rhythmic feeling to use of nylon string guitar, has been heavily influenced by Brazilian music.

He studied for a year at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, but dropped out to focus on songwriting and playing guitar.
He met both drummer Toca Rivera and ex-girlfriend Tristan Prettyman at Java Joe's.
He used to play weekly at the world-famous Java Joe's in San Diego.
He toured with Bushwalla during his fall 2005 tour.
He was featured in The Gap's 2005 fall ad campaign "Favorites."

Jason won 4 out of 5 awards he was nominated for. In 2002, he won the awards for Best Acoustic and Artist of the Year at the San Diego Music Awards. In 2003, he won the awards for Song of the Year and Artist of the Year at the San Diego Music Awards. He was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005 for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for Mr. A-Z, but didn't win.
Jason has guest contributed on three different movie and TV soundtracks: 50 First Dates, Happy Feet, and Everwood.
In February 2006, he split up with his singer-songwriter girlfriend Tristan Prettyman.
Jason graduated from Lee Davis High School in Mechanicsville, VA.
His last name is from a Czech word meaning "frost."
Although he released a song completely in Spanish, entitled "La Nueva Belleza," he does not speak Spanish fluently. His friend Carlos Olmeda helped him out with the lyrics.
Jason was born on June 23, 1977 in Mechanicsville, Virginia. He later moved to New York and then to San Diego where his music career took off.
Jason's song "Life Is Wonderful" (from Mr. A-Z) is on a Hilton commercial.
Besides doing commentary's for I Love the 80's, he has also done them for I Love the 90's.
Since the release of Mr. A-Z, Jason has appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and many other talk shows.
Jason Mraz released his second hit album Mr. A-Z in July, 2006, featuring the single Wordplay.
In his sophomore album, the track title "Mr. Curiosity" has a typo on the back reading "Mr. Curiousity." Ironically the song mentions spell-check in the lyrics.
His sophomore album, Mr. A-Z, was released on July 26, 2005.
His first album Waiting for My Rocket to Come was released on October 15, 2002.
